Parker Duofold
The Parker Duofold is a pen of exceptional character. It has a distinctive design that reflects the age of jazz and Art Deco that it was created in. The Parker Pen Company was started in 1888 by George Stafford Parker. Working as a part-time repairman, he felt overwhelmed by the continual requests for pen repairs. This led him to decide to design his own fountain pen and in 1890, he filed a patent on this design. It was the Parker Doufold that really ensured the success of the Parker Pen Company. The Parker Duofold was designed much larger and with more opulence than current designs of the time. It was a much higher level quality product all around and more expensive than most pens being sold at the time, so it was something of a gamble. Parker also made it into a stronger pen by fusing materials together and he tested it by dropping it from airplanes over the Grand Canyon. Parker's gamble paid off, and the Duofold was an immediate success. The Duofold quickly expanded to an international market. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used the Parker Duofold to record the adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Today you can find a great collection of Parker Duofold pans at Daly's Pen Shop.
